TERRITORY: The Island Remembers
by Raha Behnam, Ube Halaya, x, Marielys Burgos Meléndez and lead artist zavé martohardjono
Featured as an "Island Steward". TERRITORY: The Island Remembers has been researched and developed by an multiracial and multi-ethnic artist of color ensemble using collective, devised theater, and ritual methods to foster co-creation. The ensemble is Raha Behnam, Ube Halaya, x, Marielys Burgos Meléndez and lead artist zavé martohardjono. Ensemble artists are researching dance and myths connected to their Iranian, Filipino and Tagalog, Jamaican-Chinese, AfroTaina-Arawak, and Indonesian ancestries to make this work. For some, this ancestral history and culture has been out of reach because of assimilation and colonial conditioning.
Supporting them are Sound and Music Director Julia Santoli, video production team Proteo Media, Rehearsal Director & Production Coordinator Maya Simone Z., and Production Manager Rebecca Fitton. Artist Morgan Amirah Burns and dramaturg Elaine Carberry contributed to previous stages of the project’s development.

Four Panels by Pope.L
Featured actor within series at Mitchell-Innes & Nash
The exhibition features works from 2020 that explore the relationship between writing, legibility, speech and autobiography. Hand-written words spell out a set of bold messages against bare surfaces at times indistinguishable from the surface itself. Individual letters are variously emphasized using color, texture, transparency and erasure. Messy or inverted symbols and incorrect spelling make it challenging to decipher and the statements that ultimately transpire are fragmented, contradictory and rhythmical. These techniques create a sense of absence: the significance of the texts remain elusive and open-ended—something is missing—just as the title of the exhibition “Four Panels” leaves out that there are actually five panels on the walls of the gallery
christopher colombus is in the waiting room
By Irisdelia Garcia, presented at The Tank NYC as part of their Radio Bemba showcase.
Presented at The Tank for a night of one-acts by Latinx playwrights called “Radio Bemba,” Christopher Columbus is in The Waiting Room circles ideas of the afterlife, “post”-colonial repercussions & trauma and the digital dynamic of workspace. Christopher achieves in 30 minutes the unsettling reality of when we let histories unheard fester and —even through the screen— implode into catalyzing emotions that are often languageless and intense.
Carefully cast with actors’ stories in mind, the show is all femme, 4 out of 5 of those femmes are of color and of Caribbean descent. The play was written in response to an increasing danger of romanticizing history as something 1) distant from us 2) not as bad as it seems and 3) having nothing to do with now. Readings and rehearsals took place within a month and a half as well as producing the show for The Tank alongside other Latinx playwrights and directors.
The play poses the question: who will you face for your Judgment Day? And what will they decide?
An adaptation of Floyd Dell's Enigma
A contemporary adaptation of Floyd Dell's 1915 two-hander Enigma, call me when you get this enlists a cast of twelve to navigate digital (dis)connection in the age of surveyed hyper-love. What begins as a break-up over video chat evolves into a distorted battle to be seen despite our own values tested against the virtual panopticon. An immersive digital experience, call me when you get this explores the pitfalls of miscommunication, distance, and the lengths we go for unrequited love.
call me when you get this is collectively conceived and (re)written by the cast and creative team.
